When my husband proposed spending the weekend in Boise I thought he was crazy. Crazy like a fox, it turns out. Boise is a short inexpensive flight away, the airport is near the city center, and the city itself is really nice! And, there is a great beer scene. We visited several breweries, a winery, rode bikes and a bird sanctuary. Not in that order, of course. Each brewery was quite different, but all had some great beer. A standout was Payette Brewing Co, who had a large number of IPA’s, and a really lively modern tap room. Dogs, kids, bands, you name it. Sockeye Brewery was more old school, a warm atmosphere with a food menu and sports on tv. Same vibe as Maritime Brewery, here in Seattle. They brew a great pale, and we brought home a bottle of Winter Ale to try later. We rented bikes, rode along the Greenbelt (gorgeous), turned a corner and saw Giraffes. We went to the World Center for Birds of Prey, and saw an outstanding show of raptors in flight. I would have never guessed that Boise is a super cool little city, and a great place to spend a sunny weekend.
