This week I accompanied Scott Vanderpool and Sarah’s Beaver on a photo shoot. Taking the beav around town can be exhausting, so we stopped for some liquid refreshment at The Yard Cafe. What an impressive tap list!!! They have a healthy selection of IPA’s, but oh so much more. Even Fremont’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star. That one clocks in at 14.5% ABV, so I decided to behave and have an IPA. Vandy recommended Boneyard RPM out of Bend, Oregon. Their logo may be scary, but this beer is not. This is about as good as IPA gets. It’s one of those beers you sip and wonder how you’ve never tried it before. There is lots of hop, pine, a hint of citrus, and a wonderful aroma. This is a perfectly balanced IPA. Nothing funky, nothing foreign, well carbonated and smooth. Not too bitter. I’ve yet to have a bad beer out of Bend, and this one is certainly a standout. It won’t always be on tap at The Yard Cafe, but something delicious will be. They rotate their tap list, and as I said, it’s a mighty fine tap list. I look forward to a return visit!
