I picked up a sixer of something that caught my eye, Hop Smack IPA from Cascade Lakes Brewing out of OR. The label caught my eye, because it resembles a badass with knuckle tattoos and the band Godsmack. Little did I know, this IPA is brewed with Citra hops, which is one of my favorites. One of the things Citra Hops brings to the table is an outstanding aroma. Floral, tropical, citrus…the smell makes you want to drink it. Some hops are skunky and musky, this one, is an intoxicant for your olfactory system. If you like your beers hoppy, bitter and flavorful, you’ll enjoy this one. If you like a traditional PNW IPA you’ll enjoy this one. It’s certainly not a starter IPA for someone, as it’s chock full o’ hoppy flavor. A long time ago, a friend suggested a ‘vacation’ to Bend. I thought they were insane. After seeing some of the beers being made out of Bend, I realize it could be a beer lovers perfect domestic vacation!
