Despite the differences that divided Cheap Trick, and caused former drummer Bun E. Carlos to split from the band, guitarist Rick Nielsen says he’ll be performing at the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
“He’s going to play the inductions because they’re inducting the people who made the records way back when, and that’s good,” Nielsen said. “He deserves it” (via Cleveland.com). Carlos left Cheap Trick in 2010 due to differences with frontman Robin Zander.
Even though Carlos will join Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and lead singer Zander onstage, fans shouldn’t get overly excited; it will be a one-off performance. Nielsen cautions that the Hall of Fame moment won’t produce a true reunion.
Nielsen’s son Daxx has taken over on drums, and from the sounds of it he’s done a bang up job. “He revitalized the band totally,” Nielsen said of his son’s contribution.
The 2016 induction ceremony will take place Friday, April 8th with HBO set to broadcast the event later in the spring.
