Sting and Peter Gabriel Announce North American Tour

Hayden Wright

The wait is almost over for the tour uniting two legends: This summer, Sting and Peter Gabriel will mount a co-headlining show dubbed “Rock, Paper, Scissors” across North America and Canada. The tour’s title comes from the game Sting says he and Gabriel will play to make major decisions about the concert series. The press release announcing the tour promises that the shows “will find Peter Gabriel and Sting performing both separately and together, playing their own songs as well as melding their bands to explore each other’s most celebrated hits. “

Sting is no stranger to ongoing, live collaborations with other artists. Between 2014 and 2015, he did a series of concerts called the “On Stage Together Tour” with Paul Simon; he’s also co-headlined with Annie Lennox.

Sting and Gabriel have a lot in common; both fronted huge rock bands (in Sting’s case, the Police; Gabriel is the original singer of Genesis) and went on to massively successful solo careers. The two toured together in 1988 on Amnesty International’s “Human Rights Now!” tour (along with Bruce Springsteen) and they also share former Springsteen keyboardist David Sancious. (In a 2013 interview with Radio.com, Sancious said, “Luckily, they never seem to tour at the same time, but it’s like Russian roulette.” He probably didn’t expect this development: no word if he’ll perform with both artists during the show.

“Rock, Paper, Scissors” will open in Columbus, OH, on June 21 and the final date is scheduled for Edmonton, AB, on July 24. Below is a full list of tour dates:
