Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Gary Rossington Suffered Heart Attack

The sole original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd who is still in the band, guitarist Gary Rossington, suffered a heart attack on Thursday, October 8, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Word about Rossington first emerged when his daughter Mary Elizabeth shared a note with the Ronnie Van Zandt page on Facebook, which they in turn shared with followers.

Rossington’s daughter explained how following the heart attack, doctors went in to unclog two stents while adding a third. After that procedure, doctors will need to perform another operation which will add a fourth stent. In 2003, Rossington underwent quintuple bypass surgery for his heart problems.

Mary Elizabeth said in the statement on Facebook, “We were very close to losing him this time and just pray that they will develop even better techniques soon to deal with heart disease.”

Rossington’s colleagues and fans have been reaching out via social media to express their love. Artimus Pyle, former Skynyrd drummer, shared a post on Facebook, stating, Former Foghat also tweeted their support.
