Watch Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp Perform ‘Night Life’ on Colbert ‘Late Show’ Stage

By E. Parker

Willie Nelson hit Colbert’s Late Show stage with John Mellencamp for a performance of, what else, “Night Life.”

The Farm Aid banner was displayed on the screen behind them to promote the 30th anniversary of the concert they will be playing on Saturday (Sept. 19).

“The legacy of Farm Aid is twofold: in the change we’ve made in our farm and food system, and in the rich musical record of concerts held since 1985,” said Mellencamp in a press release, at the time it was announced that he and Nelson would play the benefit show.  “The list of artists who have played on the Farm Aid stage is a who’s who of the best artists of our time.”

Aside from promoting Farm Aid—which raises money for sruggling family farms and raises awareness about locally produced food—Nelson and Mellencamp have given Colbert another feather in his cap for hosting heavy-hitter musical guests in the first days as Late Show host on CBS (a parent company of Radio.com).

Colbert opened his show last week with a medley that included Mavis Staples, Aloe Blacc, Ben Folds, Buddy Guy and others. He has since hosted memorable performances by Kendrick Lamar and Run the Jewels, the later accompanied by TV on the Radio.
