15 Rock Stars Who Made TV Cameos

Last week, the ladies of Sleater-Kinney got the cartoon treatment with the Bob’s Burgers-themed music video for “New Wave,” the first single off their new album No Cities to Love.

“New Wave” is impossibly catchy and well suited for the Bob’s Burgers crew. In the video, animated versions of bandmates Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss serenade Tina Belcher in the privacy of her own bedroom; they are soon joined by Tina’s two siblings, Louise and Gene. Who hasn’t wanted their favorite band to play at their house? It’s a tale as old as time and TV Land.

This naturally got us to thinking about the cameos musicians have made on TV over the years. Below we’ve compiled some of our favorites, running from the great and sublime to the inexplicable and just plain weird.

Devo on Square Pegs

Square Pegs has a number of things going for it including a young Sarah Jessica Parker in the cast and a killer theme song by the Waitresses. So when the show needed to tap a band to play a character’s bat mitzvah—why not Devo? Akron’s quintet of post-punkers play “That’s No Good” from their 1982 album Oh No! It’s Devo! while their “devo-tees” bop around in time.

Prince on New Girl

It’s Prince. Do we have to explain?
