I’m having a really good morning.
Tacoma garage-rock legends The Sonics have released a song entitled “Bad Betty” from their upcoming album This Is The Sonics. I first heard it at 9:41 am and I have listened to it four times in a row, with each listen the volume increasing.
Though the band consists of players who are all old enough to be grandfathers, “Bad Betty” is as mean and raw as any of the lo-fi punk being released today. The Little Richard-fueled, two-minute romper absolutely cooks. Like the rest of the album, this primal offering was recorded in mono and mostly live in studio by producer Jim Diamond — a name often associated with the White Stripes and the Dirtbombs.
Enough gushing from me, crank this one:
Dig it? See ’em live in April at the Moore. Ticket information can be found here.
