(KZOK via 1090 The Fan) — Roenis Elias, the Mariners’ 25-year-old lefty who was pitching for Double-A Jackson in 2013, is looking to follow up his impressive Major League debut on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
With a win, Seattle would net its fifth victory over the Halos in 2014 — topping the team’s four-win total against the American League West rivals in 2013.
Elias went five innings in Oakland on Thursday, only allowing one run and two hits — just two runners advanced past first base during his time on the hill. The only thing missing from his outing was a “win” — the rookie did not factor in the decision of Seattle’s 3-2 loss.
“I was very excited, especially with the support I got from my teammates and coaches,” said Elias after his start last week. “It was a beautiful thing, something I won’t ever forget in my life.”
Los Angeles, meanwhile, will counter with righty Garrett Richards, who was also solid on Friday in Houston, as he surrendered one run and three hits in five innings to get the win. However, he did walk five batters.
Richards has faced the Mariners 11 times (3 starts) and is 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA.
