I never really thought of beer and ice cream in the same sentence, but the creative minds at Bluebird Microcreamery did. They are well known for the ice cream food truck, and now have a small brewery and ice cream store in Phinney Ridge/Greenwood. With Matt and Gibbons in tow, I went to check it out. It’s a small place, really cute with an old school kitchy feel. They have ancient board games and other items on the wall reminiscent of days long gone. The chalkboard on the right has beer and sodas. The chalkboard behind the counter boasts all the ice cream flavors. We all ordered samplers of the beer. They have a few of their own, plus a guest tap. The sampler comes on a cute little chalk board! It’s all about the local vibe, using Theo chocolate and Vita coffee. The beer is really interesting, and incorporates some unusual flavors and ideas. After the beer tasting, it was ice cream time. I have to say, the Elysian Stout ice cream is shockingly good. And the marionberry was amazing as well. Gibbons got his first taste of something with marionberry, and now knows it has nothing to do with a mayor, crack, or DC. Cute idea, and a fun place to check out if you’re in the ‘hood.
