Sarah’s Beer of the Week 05.02.13

Matt, my husband has given me the best gift ever.  A personalized growler!  It says “Sarah’s Beer Blog” right on it, with a snazzy microphone.  Not only does it look awesome, it gets filled with awesome beer wherever I want it filled!  We took the growler to Big Al Brewing in Seattle.  This brewery is in an obscure area, and is very unassuming.  It is small, but totally comfortable. The bartender was friendly.  The others sitting at the bar were all nice.  And the beer is fresh and affordable.  Before filling the growler it seemed prudent to have a sampler.  We got to choose five beer, and the pour is healthy.  They have a wide range of beers, all with distinctly different aspects.  The smoked porter is amazing.  The Big Hoppa is full of…you guessed it…hops.  YUM.  Unlike many saplers I’ve had, I truly liked each and every one.  Making it hard to choose what to fill my growler with.  I ultimately went with the Irish Red.  It’s slightly sweet, malty, and full of flavor.  Highly drinkable, and satisfying.  I can’t wait to go back to the tasting room at Big Al’s.  I’ll of course bring back my growler.  This is a hidden gem of a brewery.
