Tis’ the season. No, not THAT season, pumpkin season. We are seeing pumpkin potato chips, latte, pancakes, ice cream, and of course, beer. I decided to give one a shot. This week I tried Blue Moon Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale. I was very pleasantly surprised. I’ve found pumpkin beers to be, well, too pumpkin-y. I don’t want dessert, I want a beer that has pumpkin undertones. This one achieves that. There is cinnamon, apple, malt and other Fall spices present. It is nicely balanced. Carbonation is good, and the color gorgeous. It clocks in at 5.8%, which I find healthy, but not one that knocks you over. While I was happy to try a pumpkin brew this year, I wasn’t ready to carve my pumpkin. Maybe in a few more days.
