When much-beloved drummer/singer Levon Helm of The Band passed away on April 19, musicians from all genres and generations paid tribute at their concerts, in interviews and on Twitter. But on October 3rd at New Jersey’s Izod Center, a number of legends will pay tribute to him at a concert called “Love For Levon.”

The lineup for the show includes Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Gregg Allman, Jorma Kaukonen from Jefferson Airplane, Mavis Staples from The Staples Singers and Joe Walsh, along with John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne, Warren Haynes of The Allman Brothers Band, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Lucinda Williams, members of Levon Helm’s band, and country stars Dierks Bentley and Eric Church. An all-star backing band will be led by Larry Campbell, Helm’s musical director for the last few years of his life, and super-producer Don Was.

All net proceeds from the concert will help Helm’s estate keep ownership of his home, barn and studio, and to continue the “Midnight Ramble Sessions,” which Helm hosted and headlined in the last few years of his life. “We are deeply moved that so many musicians and friends of Levon’s are coming together to celebrate his life and his music, and to help us keep his musical spirit and vision alive in the Midnight Rambles,” said Sandy and Amy Helm, Helm’s wife and daughter, in a press statement. “We want to continue to honor his legacy by creating a musical landmark at the Barn, one that inspires and celebrates Americana music and its heritage.”

Helm’s original “Midnight Rambles” in the early 2000s were originally fundraisers so that he could afford to pay his medical bills and keep his barn and property, but they soon took on a life of their own, and became an attraction in their own right.

Tickets for the concert go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, August 29.
