We just want to lay out some facts for you real quick:
-The Mariners have won eight games in a row (as of 8/22).
-The Mariners have the best record in the American League since the All-Star Game.
-The Mariners have won 17 of their last 19 home games.

Now, The M’s still bare a record of 61-64 and are 11.5 games behind the division-leading Texas Rangers. But, these young Mariners, led by Manager Eric Wedge, have found a way to put themselves just 7 games out of a playoff spot (the second Wild Care slot). As of today (8/22), there are 37 games left in the season and Seattle still has to go play 12 tough road games: three in Chicago and three in Texas, Anaheim and Oakland.

Before you dismiss the seemingly small chance of Seattle making the playoffs for the first time in more than eleven years, let us tell you a little story. Long ago, way back in 2011 on this date, the St. Louis Cardinals were 9 games behind the division-leading Milwuakee Brewers and 10 games out of the Wild Card…yada yada yada…The Cardinals won the World Series. And from what we saw on Tuesday night for Felix Hernandez’s “Supreme Court” celebration, this city has the spirit to help propel the young group into October.

Hey…stranger things have happened.
