An Olympic swimming fan posed a question on the Quora website, and got a surprisingly disgusting answer from a former US National swim team member. The question? “Do Olympic or competitive swimmers ever pee in the pool?”
And the answer? “This is about to get into TMI territorry, but hey, I’m just answering the question. Nearly 100% of elite competitive swimmers pee in the pool. Regularly. Some deny it, some proudly embrace it, but everyone does.”
A couple other swimmers chime in on the site to confirm: They rarely do it while they’re actually racing…they have more important things on their minds, but while they’re getting ready, both in and out of the water, they all do it. They try to go beforehand, but nature doesn’t always conform to the race schedule, giving new meaning to the phrase “going for the gold”.

Yesterday, American Michael Phelps won another gold, making him the winningest competitor in Olympics history. And Bremerton’s Nathan Adrian became the first American swimmer ever to win the 100-meter freestyle….and apparently both of them have let loose in the pool. Yuck.
