The Beatles were at Abbey Road Studios today in 1969 working on the song that would become the opener to their Abbey Road album, John’s Come Together.

The Sex Pistols lip-synched to their third single Pretty Vacant on the BBC’s Top Of The Pops today in 1977, despite protests outside the studios.

Guns N Roses released their debut album Appetite For Destruction today in 1987.  It would surpass Boston’s first as the best-selling debut album in American history, and land them in the rock and roll hall of fame in 2012.

Roger Waters performed The Wall in front of the Berlin Wall tonight in 1990 with a group of famous friends like The Scorpions and Van Morrison. The show drew 350,000 people to Potzdamer Platz in West Berlin.

6′ 7″ British Bluesman Long John Baldry died today in 2005 up in his adopted hometown of Vancouver BC of a massive chest infection.  He is credited with starting the careers of Rod Stewart and Elton John, among others.

Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers bass player Howie Epstein would be 55, he died at 47 from “complications of drug use”.
