Well, I broke down the other day and went to the movie house to watch Rock Of Ages.  The quazi-spoof movie about big hair rock from the 80′s, and an abundant array of those memorable 80′s hairdo’s…or as we like to say these days…those 80′s hairdont’s.

First of all, I was surprised right from the get-go to discover that this movie is actually a musical, which I happen to not like at all.  However, the actor’s actually singing the familiar 80′s hits themselves made the whole movie.  I mean try to picture Alec Baldwin, Russel Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julianne Hough, Bryan Cranston, and Paul Giamatti all singing at the top of their lungs and trying to perform at their best…sorta.  Truly comical!  Oh yeah…and of course Tom Cruise in the lead role.

There are many big time cameo’s throughout the movie that keep it fun and nostalgic…IE:  Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) and Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon) to name just a couple.

And I would best describe this movie to the likeness of the television bonanza Glee.  So if you like musicals (and even if you don’t like them), you love comedy, you really love 80′s rock songs, and really, really love those awesome 80′s fashions, then take your lady to see Rock Of Ages.  One more note…if you’re like me and not a fan of Tom Cruise at all!  For once, Tom doesn’t try to be Mr. Cool, and instead just let’s it all hang out and performs his role to a tee.  He doesn’t try to steal the show, which is a nice change for once.  And for me, it quite possibly made the movie more enjoyable to watch.

At the end of the show, I walked out giving it a thumbs up!  Put it on your Rainy Summer Day to-do List.

“Don’t Stop Believin”…in 80′s rock!
