Queen guitarist Brian May said he was going through the band’s old material, looking for extra Freddie Mercury vocal tracks to make a new album.  Now we learn that won’t happen, but there are unheard duets with Freddie and Michael Jackson that will be released later this year.

Apparently there aren’t enough usable vocal tracks from Freddie to make a whole album. Queen drummer Roger Taylor told “I’ve got to tell you, there won’t be an album. There’s just not enough and the last thing I want to do is have a sort of barrel-scraping exercise. But there’s a couple of great tracks that Freddie recorded with Michael Jackson that Brian and I are working on and they are good. So at some point they will surface I think when we feel it’s a good moment. I don’t really want to ride any sort of wave there. So that’s an interesting thing, but that will be probably later some point next year.”

Last month May told London’s Evening Standard, “We’ve been talking to Jackson’s estate and they’re happy.” The demos were recorded in the Eighties at Jackson’s house while Queen were on tour in the US. May reveals, “Michael used to come and see us when we were on tour in the States. He and Freddie became close friends, close enough to record a couple of tracks together at Michael’s house, tracks which have never seen the light of day.”

Until then enjoy Freddie Mercury at work:
