With the 2012 Summer Olympics in London approaching, Paul McCartney has hinted that a new incarnation of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Beatles[/lastfm], featuring himself and Ringo Starr, could perform live at the event.
Paul appeared on “The Today Show” Tuesday morning, and when asked about possibly appearing at the London games in 2012, he nodded in assurance…only to backtrack and explain himself cryptically.
“I met the guy who knows the guy who’s going to ask somebody about it soon,” he bumbled about the potential concert. “I hear there’s a rumour that I might be involved.”
Sounds pretty confirmed to us. According to a source close to McCartney, he has been in talks for some time to appear at the games and a reunion of him and Ringo Starr is a distinct possibility.
“He has been speaking to organisers and has said he’d love to be involved with the games in some way. The organisers want The Beatles legend to appear alongside other big British acts…And they want Ringo on stage as well to make it extra special,” the source told The Sun.
It seems a logical choice to have some semblance of The Beatles perform on that particular stage, where the entire world is watching. As the source added, “The Beatles are loved all over the world so it’s a no-brainer that they should be represented at the Olympics.”
We certainly hope it becomes a reality!
