The inductees for the 2011 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced today. The ceremony will take place March 14 at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel and will be broadcast live by Fuse TV.

Inductees for the 2011 Class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Alice Cooper Band, Tom Waits, Neil Diamond, Darlene Love and Dr. John. Also label founders Jac Holzman (Elektra Records), Art Rupe (Specialty Records) and piano player Leon Russell — who has appeared on records by George Harrison, Willie Nelson, Elton John and Joe Cocker — made the cut.

This is what Alice Cooper said about the great news: “Getting in the Hall of Fame is about the ultimate thing you can do when you’re a garage band from Cortez High in Phoenix,” Cooper said. “It’s the most humbling thing in the world when you realize who else is in there. You look out at the audience, and every guy who influenced you is sitting there, and they are the people who voted on you.”

Neil Diamond: I think it’s great. I’m happy that that they recognized me and my work. Any club that has Chuck Berry and Little Richard and The Everly Brothers is a club that I want to be a part of.

Here are the official nominees who didn’t make it this year

Beastie Boys

Bon Jovi

Chic

Donovan

J. Geils Band

Laura Nyro

Donna Summer

Joe Tex

Chuck Willis

LL Cool J
