Not so sure “Jersey Shore” or “The Real World XXIV” counts as “killed”.

That was “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles…the first music video played on MTV, which began broadcasting to over 2 million cable customers on August 1st of 1981.  MTV seemed to have a broader musical base than American Rock radio at the time, largely because MTV had one major criteria for choosing its musical artists:  They had to have produced a “music video”, which not many performers had done at that point. This led them to show us some new, weird, and interesting acts that had, like The Buggles, DEVO, and this gal, with the second video MTV played on this day in ’81:
